Day 7, Part 2
Our last stop of the day was the Monastery of the Holy Cross. This was where the tree grew that was later made into the Cross of Christ – planted by Lot from the Old Testament. The Monastery was built by the Georgian church and later sold to the Greeks. It was a school years ago, teaching the classical studies of philosophy, astronomy, rhetoric, mathematics, etc. It is currently only used as a library, but hopes to open again in the future. It was also the model for the Holy Cross school of theology in Boston.
There is midnight Liturgy at the Holy Sepulcher tonight (an optional trip) since they do not have a Sunday morning service like we do in parishes, they only do the midnight service like we do on Holy Saturday. (That is where we get that tradition).
