Dear Parishioners of SS Peter and Paul,
Please join the Parish Council and Fr. Panagiotis in heartfelt congratulations to Fr. Kosmas Kallis as the Metropolis of Chicago announces his appointment as their Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries.
Fr. Kosmas will work through a brief transition this winter with Fr. Chris Avramopoulos, the outgoing Metropolis Director for youth ministries, and then bring his full-time focus to serving the youth and young adults of the entire Metropolis. The Metropolis announcement provides several immediate priorities for his new role, including expanding youth and young adult engagement in the life of their parishes and the Metropolis. Fr. Kosmas is well positioned by his experience at SS Peter and Paul for leadership at the next level, serving the needs of the youth that will be the future of the Church.
Fr. Kosmas has been a dynamic director of the youth ministries program for four years at Saints Peter and Paul, starting in January 2015 to reinvigorate the role and the atmosphere for youth in our parish life. In addition to building strong relationships with the youth, through youth groups, athletics, and church school programs, Fr. Kosmas expanded programs to serve additional needs in our community. His GOYAlumni group (college students), OCF at Northwestern University, and Young Adult League (YAL) group through our parish provide key connections and outreach to those in traditionally underserved times of their lives. Most definitely, Fr. Kosmas will be missed by our entire community. As timing becomes more specific for his departure, the parish office will announce a bon voyage for us to express to him our gratitude and love.
Fortunately, Fr. Panagiotis and the Parish Council anticipated and planned for Fr. Kosmas’ eventual
departure. By execution of the parish strategic plan, a full-time youth director was hired last June, enabling Peter Savas and Fr. Kosmas to have a six-month transition for programming and relationship building. Peter is a strong and capable leader ready now to continue driving positive youth experiences within our community. Indeed, Peter and Fr. Kosmas will continue to work together as the Metropolis programs intersect at the parish level.
The transition for Fr. Kosmas to join the Metropolis staff leaves a near term operational gap in the parish. Fortunately, again by execution of the strategic plan, a new Parish Administrator is starting today, Ms. Sandra Glisic. Although new, her prior experience, enthusiasm, and training will ensure that the parish day-to-day operations are well-covered as her role expands support to our Proistamenos and Parish Council.
Finally, the Metropolis is working with the Parish Council to ensure we have two priests to serve our large and growing community. A committee from the parish chaired by Chancellor Chrysostom Panos will review available priest assignments to best serve our parish going forward. Recommended options will be considered by His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael before making an assignment, anticipated later this year.
