Over 90 volunteers participated in our 2019 North Side Metropolis Quilt-a-Thon. The Quilt-a-Thon/Blankets for Babies is hosted by SS. Peter and Paul Philoptochos. We were blessed with a larger than normal turnout in spite of it being the first 70 degree day of the year! Thank you to our dedicated volunteers and especially the pre-sewers who worked months in advance to prepare blankets for the day of the event.
Our community created over 275 blankets for the North Shore Evanston Hospital. The blankets are donated to the Pediatric and Adolescent Child Life Program. They provide emotional support for newborn to adolescent patients.
Along with the SS. Peter and Paul volunteers we had many participants from St. Haralambos, St. Demetrios, St. John the Baptist and Annunciation churches. A special thank you to Father Panayioti Boznos and Joanne Stavrakis, our National Philoptochos Board Vice President for spending the day with us.
The Quilt-a-Thon is always a special day of community and service which culminates in a lovely lenten luncheon organized by Milly Pappas and Fran Mechalas.
