December 17th, we commemorated the “Three Holy Children (Ananias, Azarias, and Misael). Who are these children? The three children I know about from Daniel were named at birth: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. I was told that they had “Christian names”: Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. If that is so, how in the world did they acquire all of these names? – JZ

Parish Council News for May 2019

Many thanks to our clergy, Fr. Panagiotis and Deacon Ted, for the many services and sacraments leading up to and culminating in the Paschal celebration! Also, thanks to the speakers and ministries offering time and talent at the Lenten dinners following the six Presanctified Divine Liturgy celebrations on Wednesday evenings through Lent.

Week in Review April 30, 2019

Our youth prepared this past month to participate and sing in the 1st Resurrection Service on Holy Saturday Morning. They sang responded to the petitions, and sang beautifully the Hymn of the Three Youths.

Week in Review April 16, 2019

This past Wednesday following the presanctified liturgy, our Youth participated in our Parish Oratorical Festival. We had entries in 5 categories, speech, essay, poetry, byzantine chant, and musical entries.

Our Philoptochos Quilt-a-thon Was a Success

Over 90 volunteers participated in our 2019 North Side Metropolis Quilt-a-Thon. The Quilt-a-Thon/Blankets for Babies is hosted by SS. Peter and Paul Philoptochos. We were blessed with a larger than normal turnout in spite of it being the first 70 degree day of the year! Thank you to our dedicated volunteers and especially the pre-sewers who worked months in advance to prepare blankets for the day of the event.

SSPP Outreach Committee Serves Meals at Evanston Soup Kitchens

The interfaith council of Evanston brings Churches together to provide a meal each day of the week for the needy in the Evanston community. For years, the SSPP Outreach community has volunteered to help prepare and feed those in need by partnering with several Evanston Churches. This past week, we have had the opportunity to prepare and serve two meals.

Week in Review March 26, 2019

Our Junior and Senior GOYA visited the Greek American Rehab and Care center last Sunday! We celebrated St. Patricks Day, we went from room to room getting to know residents and then finished our day with some awesome games of Bingo! We loved sitting down and hearing our new friends old stories and they gave us a lot to think about, whether words of wisdom or great laughs. It was a great experience.
